As a world, we are so scared of fat.
Terrified of it.
We have built a universe of mysticism and meaning around this natural oily substance on our bodies.
We have hyped fat up to such a degree that today this word is full of pain, terror and agony. But worse than the word itself is the experience of fat on your body. We focus more energy and life force on the fat we see than on our loved ones, our happiness, our life.
When we see fat, we see failure and disgust.
We see laziness and sadness.
We see that we are not enough.
Well, it’s time to reclaim fat, to reclaim our curves and see them for what they are instead of what we make them mean.
That’s what we talk about in this episode of the Escape Diet Prison Podcast.
We also share our favorite ways of getting to a point of embracing fat instead of pushing it away and fearing it on a hugely irrational level.
Mirror Work
Don’t turn your head and instead force yourself to look again, allowing yourself to look beyond the surface.
Tap into the power of Archetypes
Archetypes are timeless metaphors that have been carried over throughout the centuries. They help us to see our struggles in a different way knowing that these are universal truths. Most of all, they support us in claiming our true power.
Some of the most famous archetypes are the Queen, Warrior, Lover, Whore, Dancer, Victim, Healer, Princess, Fighter, Saint, Guardian, Caretaker, Destroyer, Magician, Killer, etc.
I learned all I know about archetypes in my IPE training a few years ago and it has deeply transformed the way I live my life. If you’d like to learn more, join the Tribe and learn how you can embrace Archetypes yourself.
Start thinking of yourself as normal
Of course we’re being made to feel abnormal when we don’t look like skinny supermodels, but the truth is – and you’ll see it when you actually choose to see it – that we are normal (whatever normal actually is). There are more women similar in size and shape to us than we want to admit.
Look at diverse photos
In order to call body diversity into your attention, actively search for photos of diverse models and women. Get comfortable with the idea that there are gorgeous women out there in your size (and I am not saying that beauty and size correlate in any way, but I know that this is what we are being taught to think!). Be sure to add the term art photography when searching for photos of heavier women.
Play with your fat.
Literally.
Touch it, create faces with it. Have fun with it and take the terror out o fit. That’s what I did and still do with Johann. He loves it when my belly button talks. It lightens the heaviness around our perfectionism and leads to what really matters: living a good life.
