Throughout your life, you see yourself through many lenses.
You see yourself through the lens of society, of the media, of the fashion and beauty industry.
You see yourself through the lens of your friends, your co-workers, your boss and maybe even your parents.
Most of these lenses are judgmental, painful and degrading.
Not all of them, but most of them.
You often forget to see yourself through the most important lens of all: your very own, loving lens.
In today’s edition of Love Yourself Friday, I’d like to do a role play to help you to see yourself through the most loving lens you could ever imagine. Are you ready?
Enjoy!
Try to imagine yourself as a loving, caring parent.
A parent who is so enchanted with her baby that she has no eyes for anyone else. All she can think about is this sweet, little bundle she gave birth to. There’s so much love inside you that it’s almost painful. You know that whatever happens, you’ll be there for your baby. You’ll hold it when she cries. You’ll comfort her when it’s sad. You’ll cheer her on when she’s doubtful. Feel the love go through your baby.
Now, imagine yourself being that baby. Be that baby that looks into her parents loving eyes.
How can you not love the baby you are? How can you not experience this immeasurable and infinite love for yourself if you are that baby inside; that vulnerable, sweet, babbling, chuckling little baby?
What if you could experience holding yourself in your arms like a baby? The love you would pour upon a young child. What if you could experience feeling love for yourself, but also give love to yourself. Wouldn’t you do anything for yourself? Wouldn’t you turn into mama bear for all the bullying you’re doing to yourself? Wouldn’t you defend yourself against your ugly thoughts and destructive behaviors? Yes, you would.
So, this weekend and for the rest of your life, turn into mama bear and defend your inner baby against all the pain you put yourself through.

I recently read “Eating in the Light of the Moon” which also talks about how many women (esp with eating disorders) never develop that inner voice of themselves that they can trust to guide them and treat them with love. I love the idea of a mama bear. To treat ourselves with that amount of kindness. Not only kindness but protection, guarding the fragile core of our being no matter what the world is throwing at us.. I will hold on to that image.
I loved that book and it shows so many ways in which we’ve forgotten to be female and take care of ourselves! Love the way you described mama bear. That’s a much better picture and frame as I’ve said it. <3
