If you’ve been dieting for a while, you know that dieting can take over your entire life. It’s easy to begin thinking about food and your body from the moment you open your eyes and don’t stop obsessing about it until you go to bed.
You probably also know that whenever you diet, dreaming about food and eating isn’t unheard of at all.
This obsession with your diet serves a real, not quite unimportant purpose: it distracts your from your life.
Dieting distracts you from work.
Dieting distracts you from life.
Dieting distracts you from relationships.
And it distracts your from the present.
Dieting keeps you living for the future or morning your past. It makes you feel like shit right now while you wait to feel sexy, healthy and whole in years to come.
Dieting – at best – keeps you small and – at worst – has the power to ruin your life.
If you’re in this place of feeling overwhelmed by your need to change your body while feeling 100% stuck in your life, here are 4 strategies helping you to stop making dieting your life’s purpose.
Strategy #1: Slow down
Slow down and begin to really appreciate where you are.
When you slow down, you’ll begin to become aware of all the ways you’re using food to sabotage yourself and your life. Slowing down is a lifestyle and not something you do once, so commit to this practice and – step by step – see the multi-layered purpose that dieting has for you.
Strategy #2: Face your truth
What’s not working for you right now? Why are you dieting? What are you trying to hide from?
If you’re not living your truth, you obviously need something to take the pain away. But dieting won’t give you what you are really longing for. You must make chances in relation to all the things that are working against you in your life to find happiness, love and compassion for yourself.
Strategy #3: Practice being authentic
Who are you really?
Are you living your most authentic life or are you constantly pretending to be someone you’re not?
Most of us are scared of being our most vulnerable authentic selves. We don’t want to be rejected, we don’t want to be dissed. We all want to be loved and thus we pretend to be super likeable, agreeable, sweet. While others may like us, we begin to loath ourselves and use all kinds of crappy ways to deal with the mental stress of not being who we are.
It’s time to learn how to be authentic, own your personality, your beliefs and your soul. The sooner you begin, the better.
Strategy #4: Figure out what lights you up
Do you know what really fires you up? Do you ever do anything that fires you up or does your life consist of an endless battle doing things you truly dislike?
Tapping into your life force is essential for living a full life and for getting out of the diet prison you’ve voluntarily locked yourself in.
Do what you LOVE. Yes, you can. Yes, you deserve to. And yes, you must – if you want to heal deeply and check back in to life and your body.
