We like to think we’re the ones taking care of our bodies. However, listening to your body is key to truly understanding its needs.
Sometimes we’re diligent about self-care, and other times, we completely ignore what our body needs. There are moments when we’re grateful for her existence, and other times we wish we could trade her in for something “better.” But through all these phases, we cling to the belief that we’re in charge.
But are we really?
Who’s the one always catching us when we fall?
Who feels the pain when we’re sick?
Who processes the emotions we experience?
Who tells us when we’re full or tired or in need of rest?
It’s your body—always there, always taking care of you.
The Power of Listening to Your Body
We often think we know better. We override hunger cues, push through exhaustion, and ignore discomfort. We fight our body’s natural signals, convinced our mind is in control. But what if we stopped?
What if, instead of forcing, we started listening to our body?
Your body is infinitely smart. She knows what she needs and has an incredible ability to communicate with you. The problem isn’t your body—it’s that we’re too distracted, too stubborn, or too brainwashed to hear her.
Why Listening to Your Body Matters
You already know when:
- Your body has had enough food but you keep eating.
- Your emotions are unspoken, and food becomes a substitute for love or comfort.
- You’re too tired to exercise but force yourself onto the elliptical anyway.
- You restrict, deny, or abuse your body in an effort to meet unrealistic ideals.
Your body is constantly sending you signals, but you’ve been trained to override them. Listening to your body is the key to breaking this cycle.
Surrender to Your Body’s Wisdom
There’s a word I love: surrender.
Surrendering doesn’t mean giving up—it means letting your body guide you. It’s about putting down the boxing gloves and trusting your body to take care of you.
Your body knows when it’s hungry, when it’s full, when it needs movement, and when it needs rest. It knows how to heal, nurture, and thrive—if you let it.
Instead of controlling every aspect of your body, start listening to her. Tune into her cues and let her do what she does best: take care of you.
How to Start Listening to Your Body
- Recognize her signals: Pay attention to hunger, fullness, exhaustion, and emotional discomfort.
- Trust her wisdom: Let go of the need to control every aspect of food, exercise, and appearance.
- Surrender with love: Treat your body as an ally, not an enemy.

I love this! Such a neat perspective. I am always learning to listen to my body more. There is definitely an intelligence there, in my cells, that I should listen to! I also took a class on Heart Math — that’s really rocked my world and changed how I live.
Keep up the awesome blogging!
