We all have times when life doesn’t go the way we want it to go, right? We all experience days of hopelessness, anger, pain and heartache and sometimes these times linger on longer than they should.
A few years ago, while I was going through one of those phases of deep disappointed and heartache, I wrote a simple prayer of gratitude for life; words that comforted me, held me and made me see the bigger picture of life.
Dear life, I want to take a moment to say these simple words. I want to say thank you with humility and love.
Thank you for the sunrise in the morning and the sunset at night. Thank you for thunderstorms, laughter and joy. Thank you for freedom. Thank you for love.
Thank you for new perspectives and old ways of bliss. Thank you for the sweetness of chocolate and the bitterness of this.
Thank you for holding me, grounding me, cradling me and letting me go.
Thank you for the moon observing my dreams and the sun illuminating my wants.
Thank you for mothers, sisters, husbands and wives. Thank you even for the moments that cut like a knife.
Thank you for the lightness of a touch and the softness of a kiss. Thank you for having me, giving me chances, opportunities and breath.
Thank you for life, life.
So today, I offer these words to you.
Whenever you feel down, recite this prayer to yourself. Give yourself the time to feel its simple profoundness connecting with your soul. Feel its truth, rawness and strength. Open yourself up to the sheer power of the universe and the awe of life and realize that hope and love are always around the corner; all you have to do is say “thank you”.
The truth is that life hardly ever goes the way we think it will. It’s full of surprises that help us to grow. We can’t change that, but we can change our attitude. And you know what? It’s easier and lighter when we choose to say thank you instead of holding on to grudges and pain.
Once you look up, truly look around, you’ll see that there’s so much to be grateful for. So much to treasure and hold.
There’ll always be new opportunities, more people to love, more kisses to give and more adventures to experience. Don’t let the bad times keep you from living, loving and being here. Truly.
Say thank you and smile. Your life will thank YOU for it. 💖
