As you begin the journey to create ease around food, you have the beautiful opportunity to connect with your body on a deep basis.
This not only helps with strengthening your self-esteem but it also enables you to create a freer life for yourself and the generations to come.
There are some things that might get in the way of you deeply connecting with your body and honoring her for all she is and does. It’s time to take a look at the obstacles that you may have bumped against in the past and are yet to overcome.
Here are 6 ways to create an infinitely powerful relationship with your body and self.
1. Accept – really, truly- that changing your shape is not an option
Attempting to change your weight is harmful, no matter how often people tell you otherwise. The scientific data is quite clear here.
The more you try to change your shape by dieting the more likely it is that you’ll gain weight in the long term.
In order to accept your body, you need to accept that your body is the way she is and that that is not a shameful/bad/wrong thing.
2. Change your definition of what having a “thinner” body will do for you
What do you think a thinner body will do for you?
Will it make you healthier? It won’t. We’ve discussed that endless.
Will it make you more desirable? Do you really want a guy who only wants you because of your body?
Will it make you happier? Why would it?
Will it make you richer? Seriously?
Will it make you cool? Is being thin the only definition of cool and is cool the end-all-be-all step to a great life?
It’s time to really dig deep and see what you’re actually trying to achieve and how you’re using the “thin is best” ideal as a way to seemingly get what you actually desire.
3. Live your life/do the things you tell yourself you’ll do once your body is thinner
Go out and live your life the way YOU want to live your life. Don’t wait to do all the things you’ve wanted to do until you’ve lost weight and achieved the body of your dreams.
The more you push things off, the more unhappy you’ll be, which will make you engage in destructive habits, which will make you even more unhappy.
Just go out and LIVE.
4. Stop engaging in “if only” thinking
If only I wasn’t so hungry all the time, I’d be thin.
If only I didn’t need to eat, I’d be thin.
If only my body’s genetic makeup was different, I’d be happy.
If only I didn’t have these urges to enjoy my food, I’d look phenomenal.
If only…
The more “if onlys” you add to your life, the more your life will pass you by.
We are humans, we need to eat. We have a natural occurring appetite and there’s no way an “if only” mantra will take that away from you.
5. Focus on what works instead of focusing on what’s wrong
What are some of the things that help you to appreciate your body? What about body acceptance has worked for you in the past?
What are the people, situations, practices, words or things that have lifted you up instead of torn you apart?
What’s positive? Build on THAT.
6. Delete, delete, delete
Delete negative language patterns, delete negative people, fitspiration accounts, words that trigger you, messages that hurt.
Just hit delete.
You do not need to listen, read or be part of anything that threatens to take your body acceptance to a lower level.
You are the master of your reality. Use your power wisely.
Are you ready to make peace with food, your body and yourself? Like truly, really, no doubts about your self-worth and wholeness?
